KIWI Magazine announces National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day, to celebrate what’s great about school lunch and learn how parents and schools can work together to make it even better.

KIWI Magazine invites parents to celebrate what’s great about school lunch—and learn how we can all work together to make it even better. National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day takes place on October 17 during School Lunch week, and is co-sponsored by the School Nutrition Association, Stonyfield, and the Whole Kids Foundation.

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day is a grassroots effort to bring families together with schools to share a meal and share ideas. It’s a day for parents across the country to visit their children’s schools and have lunch with them in the cafeteria. The goal is to learn more about what goes into putting together a healthy lunch, and for parents and school officials to open the lines of communication so they can work together to provide kids with the healthiest meals possible.

For schools, Lunch Day is an opportunity to showcase their healthy meals and provide parents with more information about lunchtime—from what goes into getting a healthy meal on a child’s tray, to what the day-to-day lunch experience is like, to what new initiatives, plans, or updates have been made to the menu.

In addition to sharing a cafeteria meal, Lunch Day participants are invited to enter YoKids’ My Lunch Tales Contest by sharing their favorite lunch story for the chance to win $2,500. Enter at mylunchtales.com.
