Grand Wailea Announces First Culinary & Cocktail Collaboration with chef Tanya Holland

Celebrity chef, Tanya Holland, of Brown Sugar Kitchen, will inaugurate the pop-up series

 Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort — an iconic beachside property nestled on 40-acres of lush, tropical gardens fronting Maui’s Wailea Beach — is pleased to launch its Culinary & Cocktail Collaborations pop-up series. The series provides guests with a range of programming from interactive masterclasses and virtual demos to exceptional dining experiences featuring highly renowned celebrity chefs, mixologists and restaurateurs. On February 19-21, 2021 the series begins with Celebrity Chef, TV Personality, and Author, Tanya Holland of famed Oakland haunt, Brown Sugar Kitchen. This news comes after local restrictions led the hotel to reschedule its first planned collaboration with lauded cocktail bar Employees Only from its original December 2020 date to this spring. 

“We are thrilled to have such a prestigious culinary talent such as Tanya Holland kick off our interactive pop-up series,” said JP Oliver, Grand Wailea’s Managing Director. “We can’t wait for Tanya to bring her multi-faceted experience to the resort, where we believe she will leave a lasting impact on guests, from cooking demos to her signature recipes.”

From February 19-21, guests can choose various items on the menu — all made with locally-sourced ingredients — curated by Tanya Holland, where she will be cooking in conjunction with the hotel’s kitchen. Tanya will be leading a virtual demo — to be streamed both on Facebook Live and Instagram Live — where she will explain the step-by-step processes in making her most famed recipes; all in front of a breathtaking backdrop of the beach and the hotel’s tropical grounds, a setting intended to transport viewers at home to the island of Maui.

Additional activities include a “Female Leaders’ Breakfast Circle,” where Tanya will lead a morning conversation on Sunday, February 21about female entrepreneurship, providing her tips and insight on becoming a successful business owner in the hospitality industry, with Grand Wailea team members.

“The unprecedentedness of this year shook the hospitality industry,” said Chef Tanya Holland. “I am thrilled to start 2021 with Grand Wailea’s guests at this collaboration, where I will be bringing my favorite recipes from Brown Sugar Kitchen, culinary teachings, and female entrepreneurship insight to the hotel.”

Acclaimed for her inventive take on modern soul food, as well as comfort classics, Tanya Holland is the Executive Chef/Owner of the internationally renowned and beloved Brown Sugar Kitchen restaurant, located in Oakland, CA. The author of The Brown Sugar Kitchen Cookbook and New Soul Cooking, Holland competed on the 15th season of Top Chef on Bravo, appears on the new 

HBO Max show Selena + Chef featuring Selena Gomez and is the host of OWN’s Tanya’s Kitchen Table. In 2020, Holland launched “Tanya’s Table” podcast with MuddHouse Media. She is on the Board of Trustees for the James Beard Foundation, and Brown Sugar Kitchen has received multiple Michelin Bib Gourmand awards.

The resort has undergone key changes in accordance with government and local authority guidance as well as Hilton CleanStay with Lysol protection, which within the food & beverage  realm includes, among many other motions, thermal screen temperature checks, spread out seating for social distancing, QR codes for menus, an advanced level of disinfection and hygienic maintenance of dining areas, and contactless food delivery.
